State Resources
New Hampshire Business Resources
New Hampshire is the only state in the union that has neither a general sales tax nor an individual income tax. The lack of a strong broad based tax system has caused local taxes to be among the highest in the nation. Despite high local taxes, the overall effect of these policies has been to consistently give the state’s taxpayers one of the lightest tax burdens in the United States. New Hampshire’s economy was initially based on textiles. This eventually led to an over-reliance on the industry and a long depression once southern producers entered the market with lower costs. Today’s economy is significantly more diversified with manufacturing, tourism, health care and real estate all playing a significant role in the state economy. The manufacturing industry employs roughly 10% of the state’s workforce, led by strong production of computers & electronics.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) was created in 1953 as an independent agency of the federal government to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of small business concerns, to preserve free competitive enterprise and to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of our nation. We recognize that small business is critical to our economic recovery and strength, to building America's future, and to helping the United States compete in today's global marketplace. Although SBA has grown and evolved in the years since it was established in 1953, the bottom line mission remains the same. The SBA helps Americans start, build and grow businesses. Through an extensive network of field offices and partnerships with public and private organizations, SBA delivers its services to people throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, the U. S. Virgin Islands and Guam.
